Boyle to receive Royal Medal

On May 17, 2017, The Royal Society of Edinburgh has announced that Her Majesty the Queen has approved the RSE Council’s recommendations for the 2017 RSE Royal Medals.
On Friday 7 July 2017, Professor Peter Boyle, CorrFRSE FMEDSci, President of The International Prevention Research Institute and Director of The University of Strathclyde Institute of Global Public Health, will be recognised for his outstanding contribution to global cancer control and public health policy.
The Royal Medal will be presented by Her Majesty the Queen .
The Royal Society of Edinburgh is Scotland’s National Academy of Science and Letters. It was founded in 1783 by Royal Charter for ‘the advancement of learning and useful knowledge’. The RSE recognises excellence through awarding prizes and medals, the highest of which is the RSE Royal Medal.
RSE Royal Medals were instituted by Her Majesty The Queen – who is a patron of the RSE – to mark the Millennium and have been awarded since then with her express approval. These accolades are awarded for distinction and international repute in any of the following categories: Life Sciences; Physical and Engineering Sciences; Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Business and Commerce. Previous recipients have included Nobel Laureates such as Sir James Black, Sir James Mirrlees and theoretical physicist Professor Peter Higgs, as well as the distinguished Scottish historian Professor Thomas Devine.
Professor Boyle looks forward to the presentation ceremony with humility and anticipation.
