
Philippe Vanhems
Philippe Vanhems graduated as Medical Doctor from Nancy Medical School in 1992. He accomplished his internship in Epidemiology and Public Health and integrated the Division of Infectious Diseases at the Geneva University Hospitals in 1988-1991. He received a grant from the National Swiss Research Foundation to complete his PhD training in Public Health at the University of Montreal, graduating in 1998. He worked as an academic scientist at the University of New South Wales and the National Center for HIV Epidemiology and Clinical research in Sydney (Australia), and for the program of infectious diseases of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle (USA). In 1997 he moved to the Lyon University Hospitals, at the Department of Public Health, Epidemiology and Infection Control. Since 2003 he is Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health at the Claude Bernard University Lyon 1. He is currently the Head of the Epidemiology and Infection Control Department at Lyon University Hospitals. He leads a research group focused on the epidemiology of infectious diseases in collaboration with the International Center of Research in Infectiology (CIRI) and is also involved in several vaccine-related projects in a French research network (I-REIVAC). He published more than 300 international articles. In 2016, he received a prize dedicated to public health (Prix Référence Santé) from the French National Academy of Medicine.
