Giovanni Corrao became research assistant at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Turin, in 1984, where he was until 1988. In 1988 he was upgraded as Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of L’Aquila, where he stayed until 1993. He is currently Full Professor in Medical Statistics, University of Milano-Bicocca.
Prof. Corrao is currently the chairman of the Italian college of Medical Statistics professors. From 2005 to 2009 he was the President of the Italian Society of Medical Statistics and Clinical Epidemiology. From 2009 to 2012 he was the Dean of the Faculty of Statistical Science, University of Milano-Bicocca. He is the founding Editor of the journal Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Public Health.
Since 2003 he has been the coordinator of the postgraduate course program in Biostatistics, University of Milano-Bicocca, Milan, Italy. He currently teaches Medical statistics (undergraduate course in Statistics, University of Milano-Bicocca), Methodology of clinical and epidemiological research and Pharmacoepidemiology (postgraduate course in Biostatistics, University of Milano-Bicocca), Biostatistics (postgraduate course in Biology, University of Milano-Bicocca), and Medical statistics (School of specialization in Public Health, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery “A. Gemelli”, Rome). He is currently the vice-coordinator of the PhD program of Public Health, University of Milano-Bicocca.
Prof. Corrao currently carries out his research activity at the Laboratory of Healthcare Research and Pharmacoepidemiology, Department of Statistics and Quantitative Methods, University of Milano-Bicocca, Milan, Italy. His main research interest is on methodological issues of clinical research and in the design, analysis and interpretation of statistical models for both observational studies and clinical trials. More recently, he has focused on statistical methods and epidemiological designs in pharmacoepidemiology and outcome research, and on the use of electronic archives in this area. He is currently the coordinator for the University of Milano-Bicocca of 6 collaborative research projects in the field of pharmacoepidemiology supported from the European Community (3 projects), Italian Medicines Agency (2 projects), and Italian Health Ministry (1 project).
