Hans Joachim Schmoll obtained his medical degree in 1970 from Hanover Medical University, Germany. Currently, Prof. Schmoll is the Head of the Division of Hematology and Oncology and Director of the Center for Cell and Gene Therapy, Martin Luther University, Halle, Germany, and Prof of Medicine at Martin Luther University, Germany. He has published over 355 peer reviewed papers with a focus on the biology and particular treatment of advanced colon and rectal cancer as well as on germcell cancer. He has been a leading author of the first European consensus guideline for germcell cancer in 2004 and of the first international ESMO consensus guideline for diagnosis and treatment of colon and rectal cancer in 2011.
