Mark Clanton served as the principal Deputy Director of the National Cancer Institute, National Institute of Health in 2006, under NCI Director Andrew von Eschenbach. His duties included providing senior executive oversight of the NCI Cancer Center Core Grant Program. The Director and staff of the Office of Cancer Centers reported to him during this time and he engaged in executive problem solving and senior level sign-off for this program on behalf of the Director of the NCI. Mark currently serves on three cancer center external advisory boards (EAB) including the University of Kansas Cancer Center. He chairs the EAB at the NCI Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) designated University of Hawaii Cancer Center and serves as member of the NCI CCSG designed Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis, Mo. Dr. Clanton provides advice and feedback in the public health areas of tobacco control, healthcare disparities, cancer prevention and control as well as general advice on the overall performance of the cancer center against NCI CCSG expectations.
