Landscape of cancer care in Bangladesh
Dr Akram Hussain Syed considers the state of cancer care and management in Bangladesh. Cancer is currently the 6th leading cause of death in Bangladesh, but the majority of government funding goes to the prevention of infectious diseases. The leading cause of cancer in men in Bangladesh is tobacco, resulting in some of the highest levels of oral cancers in the world. The present situation with treatment in Bangladesh focuses on late and advance stage patients as the country is without the necessary facilities for early diagnostics and screening.
These are interviews with key participants of the National Cancer Institutes Directors Meeting organized annually by the International Prevention Research Institute in Lyon, France. The interviews were produced by eCancer.
